Poland took over the presidency of the EU Council

1 July 2011 for the first time Poland took over the Presidency of the European Union. Preparations for this role have begun already in 2007. A year later Plenipotentiary for the Presidency was appointed. Along with that, the programme of preparation for the Polish presidency of the EU has been approved and logistics and training preparation of Polish officials began.

Taking over the Presidency, Poland is obliged to coordinate all the meetings, both formal and informal, which will be held between 1 July to 31 December. It also involves the representation of the Council to other EU institutions such as the European Commission and European Parliament.
