50th anniversary of the European FADN

On June 11th 2015 DG AGRI in Brussels organised and hosted the Conference on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the European FADN. The conference was attended by the FADN representatives from the European Commission and delegates from all the Liaison Agencies from 28 EU Member States including four employees of Agricultural Accountancy Department of IAFE-NRI.

 

The main objective of the conference was to present functioning of Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) over its 50 years and to indicate its possible directions for development in the future.

 

During the meeting various topics were addressed such as topics related to the monitoring of farm income, possible directions of FADN evolution as a tool to monitor farms results, and the ways of using FADN data for various institutions related to agriculture.

 

During the conference special attention was paid to how to encourage farmers to participate in the FADN and for the exchange of experiences in this field. In the plenary session, Dr. Lech Goraj (IAFE-NRI) presented the evolution of Polish farmers income after accession to the EU in comparison with EU farms and prospects for the future with the possible directions of income development in Polish agriculture towards 2020. On the other hand, Dr. Zbigniew Floriańczyk (Head the Polish FADN) pointed out the problems related to the farms recruitment to the FADN system and made a comment on how FADN is perceived by farmers in Poland.
