Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Agricultural Accounting in Poland

On June 22, 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development hosted celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of agricultural accounting in Poland. The anniversary conference, “100 Years of Agricultural Accounting in Poland,” was dedicated to the history, achievements, significance, and future of agricultural accounting in in Poland. Undersecretary of State Adam Nowak represented Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Stefan Krajewski at the event.

The event provided a special opportunity to commemorate the 100-year tradition of agricultural accounting in Poland, which, since 1926, has provided data on the economic situation of farms, supported the development of the agricultural sector, and helped shape agricultural policy.

“Agricultural accounting is not just about numbers and reports; above all, it is about understanding how farms operate, what results they achieve, and what challenges they face on a daily basis. Thanks to this information, we can better assess the economic situation of farmers and make more informed decisions regarding support for the agricultural sector. A hundred years of agricultural accounting means a hundred years of knowledge serving the Polish countryside and Polish farmers”— These words were addressed to the participants by Minister of Agriculture Stefan Krajewski.

The conference program included, among other, a commemorative lecture devoted to the evolution of agricultural accounting in Poland, panels with the participation of representatives of academia, public administration and the business sector, as well as a discussion on the future of agricultural accounting and its development at national and international level. The invited experts discussed the importance of accounting data for assessing the economic situation of agricultural holdings, analysing changes in agriculture and preparing tools to support effective agricultural policy.

A special place in the discussion was occupied by the transformation of the FADN system into the FSDN. After Poland’s accession to the European Union, the data were collected as part of the Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN). Since 2025, the system has been operating as the Farm Sustainability Data Network (FSDN), including – in addition to economic data – also information on the environmental impact of farms and the social aspects of their functioning.

The Polish FSDN is managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and implemented by the Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics – National Research Institute in cooperation with agricultural advisory centres. The system covers a representative sample of approximately 9,000 farms. Farmers’ participation is voluntary, and the data provided remain anonymous and serves only analytical and research purposes.

During the ceremony, attention was also drawn to the importance of digitisation of agriculture and the use of new technologies in the further development of agricultural accounting. It was pointed out that modern information needs go beyond financial and economic data, which is why the development of the FSDN system and digital tools is important for farmers, administration and the world of science. In this context, the Farmer’s Portal developed by the Ministry was also mentioned, which is ultimately to facilitate the use of administration services in one place.

An important element of the conference was to honour people and institutions who have made a special contribution to the development of agricultural accounting in Poland. During the celebrations the Honorary Badge “Meritorious for Agriculture’ and Commemorative Statuettes were presented, which are an expression of recognition for the contribution to the creation, development and dissemination of the agricultural accounting system.

The celebration of the 100th anniversary of agricultural accounting in Poland confirmed that data collected under the Polish FSDN are crucial in monitoring the economic situation of farms, assessing the effectiveness of the Common Agricultural Policy instruments and in preparing solutions to support the development of Polish agriculture. They also constitute an important source of information for analysing changes occurring in agriculture and rural areas.

We would like to thank all the participants for attending and for their active involvement in celebrating the 100th anniversary of agricultural accounting in Poland. Your commitment and participation are the best indication of the significance of this exceptional anniversary.
